Mayor Noon Resigns Due to Medical Issues

Joe Noon

After much deliberation, Greensboro Mayor, Joe Noon has made the difficult decision to step down from his position. The Mayor has been on a medical leave of absence since February to be treated for a rare form of cancer. He’s undergone several surgeries as well as radiation, and recently, fortunately, has been determined to be cancer-free. However, he continues to deal with some medical challenges and feels continuing to leave the town without a permanent mayor in place would be a disservice to the community.

Mayor Noon said today, “Resigning from this role is one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make. It has been an honor to serve you all for the last eight years. I’d like to thank our Town Council for their collaboration and diligence in working for the residents of Greensboro. I plan to remain actively involved in our community when the timing is right. For now, my focus will be on healing.”

Mayor Noon is in his second term and first took office in November of 2011. The Greensboro Town Council will appoint someone to fill Mayor Noon’s position through the remainder of his term.
