The Department of Planning, Zoning, and Codes Enforcement is a vital part of planning for the Town’s future. The Department handles items such as planning for the comprehensive long term planning of the Town, issuing a variety of building and construction permits, and enforcing property maintenance codes.

Building and Construction
Most building and construction projects require a permit from the Town, including new construction, renovations, additions, accessory buildings, fences, and the constructions of improvements, such as pools and fireplaces.
If you are planning to do work to a property, we recommend you call our Planning Department so that we can advise you on the regulations that may apply and what permits and documents are needed.

Property Maintenance
Properties in the Town are subject to maintenance requirements as described in the 2021 edition of the International Property Maintenance Code. These requirements are meant to enhance safety, as well as eliminate pests and blight.

Planning Commission
The Planning Commission is an important part of shaping the future of the Town. It reviews and makes recommendations to the Town Council for changes to Greensboro’s Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Ordinance. Additionally, the Planning Commission reviews and either approves or denies all subvision requests.
