New Greensboro Police Chief Selected!

Chief Lee being sworn in by Acting Mayor Mackey

The Town of Greensboro is pleased to announce Eric Lee has been selected as our police department’s new police chief. He was sworn in Monday evening with his family by his side; his children actually placing the Chief’s pin upon his uniform. Lee, 43, is a familiar face here in Greensboro. He joined our police department last month and immediately put in for the hiring process. Four other candidates also participated in a panel interview led by police chiefs from outside the area.

Lee has 21 years of law enforcement experience, most recently with the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office. Prior to that, he worked at the Prince George’s County Police Department where he was awarded a bronze medal of valor for helping fellow officers alert and escort residents of a senior citizen home to safety after an apartment fire in College Park in 2012.

Chief Lee is already strongly engaged with our community, having served as a youth football coach in Caroline County since 2012. He plans to continue that role as he and his family are all very involved with the Cougars. Lee replaces Chief Michael Petyo who left the department in January. At his swearing-in Monday, Chief Lee said, “If a person is lucky, his life is made of remarkable memories. Tonight was one of them. It’s a true honor to have been chosen to serve in this important role. We in law enforcement have such a critical role to play in our communities. I have long believed that when your residents support you and share information to make our streets safer, we all benefit. We are stronger together.”

Town Manager Jeannette DeLude said, “The Mayor, Commissioners and I all want to thank Sgt. Glenn Ray for serving as acting police chief until a permanent chief was named. We are grateful to have him on our department. We are also eagerly awaiting the many community-focused plans Chief Lee has pledged to develop under his leadership.”

We hope our community will soon have the opportunity to personally meet Chief Lee. One way to do just that is to stop by the next Town meeting on April 4th here at Town Hall.
