SEARCH UNDERWAY FOR NEW GREENSBORO POLICE CHIEF

2-4-2019

The Town of Greensboro is accepting applications for a new police chief following Chief Michael Petyo’s departure last month. Chief Petyo served the community of Greensboro since August of 2017 and was offered another opportunity with a police department outside the state. Sgt. Glenn Ray will serve as acting police chief until a permanent chief is named.

The position is being advertised through local media and online at https://www.greensboromd.org/. Once qualified candidates have been identified, a panel of five, including at least three police chiefs from other departments, will conduct interviews. The panel will then give its recommendation to the town manager. The chosen candidate will have a full background check, psychiatric evaluation, and will be cleared through the Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission prior to being hired.

Town Manager Jeannette DeLude thanked Chief Petyo for his service and cited a significant drop in crime as a result of his efforts. “Chief Petyo made a tangible impact on our community by helping to lower crime, particularly in the downtown area,” said DeLude. “Please join me in wishing him the best in this next phase of his law enforcement career.” The Town will ensure our community is informed once a new police chief has been selected.

Additionally, the Town of Greensboro would like to announce the hiring of its newest police officer. Today is Cpl. Eric Lee’s first day with the Greensboro Police Department. Cpl. Lee was most recently with the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office and prior to that, he was with the Prince George’s County Police Department where he was awarded a bronze medal of valor for helping fellow officers alert and escort residents of a senior citizen home to safety after an apartment fire in College Park in 2012. Cpl. Lee is already strongly engaged with our community, having served as a youth football coach in Caroline County since 2012.
