From the March 30, 2020 Social Security Administration News Release:

  • Social Security benefits will be paid on time
  •  Reminder "to be aware of scammers who try to take advantage of the pandemic to trick people into providing personal information or payment via retail gift cards, wire transfers, internet currency, or by mailing cash, to maintain Social Security benefit payments or receive economic impact payments from the Department of the Treasury".
  • Economic relief payments, as part of the CARES Act, will be paid to eligible people by the Treasury. Payment will not come from Social Security.
  • The public is encouraged to use the online self-serve options at www.socialsecurity.gov whenever possible to find answers pertaining to your Social Security benefits.
  • For COVID-19 related Social Security information, please visit www.socialsecurity.gov/coronavirus/
  • National 800 number hours have been changed to 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  The agency is experiencing longer than normal wait times; please use their website whenever possible.
