Community Outreach/Main Street Coordinator

COMMUNITY OUTREACH-MAIN STREET COORDINATOR
(Partial Grant Funding)

 

The Town of Greensboro is seeking a Community Outreach-Main Street Coordinator who will be responsible for focusing on Community Outreach and the implementation and coordination of Main Street revitalization. The Community Outreach-Main Street Coordinator will work in collaboration with Town leadership and staff, Town Council and community representatives in a joint effort to develop community support while making Greensboro an attractive location for new businesses and residents.

This position will be partially grant funded for two years. The Town will conduct program performance reviews based on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). The Community Outreach-Main Street Coordinator will work with Town leadership and various stakeholders to determine the primary goals and benchmarks for the programs. Performance will be evaluated monthly.

After 18 months, two factors will be considered:

  1. Availability of grant funding
  2. Overall success of the programs: Town leadership and stakeholders will evaluate the progress and make a determination regarding the continuation of the position and/or if it will become a permanent Town position. The Town Manager will make a recommendation to Mayor and Council regarding the continuation of the position.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Public Relations
  • Building and sustaining strategic relationships with community leaders, residents, stakeholders, and county and state organizations
  • Project and Program Management and event coordination
  • Providing outreach and education to diverse audiences through presentations, trainings and events
  • Bilingual – Spanish – to encourage and build a relationship with the non-English speaking Hispanic community
  • Assist in writing outreach plans and coordinating with Town and community representatives
  • Strong abilities and experience in fundraising
  • Work with Town Manager to develop community improvement projects; plan and execute projects; provide updates
  • Work to develop volunteer base through community awareness
  • Assess and identify community needs; present observations and recommendations to Town Manager to determine next course of action
  • Develop an effective and creative social media plan; responsible for they day-to-day publishing/advertising of community events, programs and useful information
  • Maintain and improve website
  • Marketing: develop and maintain relationships with media outlets
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress and effectiveness of plans and partnerships
  • Serve as the lead contact for Main Street; maintain Town’s Main Street status
  • Develop and market Main Street revitalization; assist with building rehabilitation efforts and other downtown improvements
  • Work with Town Manager to build a Main Street advisory board
  • Work to recruit new businesses and sustain existing businesses
  • Maintain regular contact with Town Manager, community leaders, business representatives, nonprofit agencies
  • Work with Town Manager and staff to implement, build and promote community events
  • Assist with planning, preparing and administering budgets for community relations and Main Street
  • Research grants for Main Street revitalization projects and Town activities

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Considerable knowledge and proven ability in community outreach and networking
  • Ability to plan and implement large scale community events and provide leadership to volunteers
  • Knowledge and experience in grant research, writing and oversight
  • Strong multi-tasking and organizations skills
  • Bilingual – fluent in Spanish to build relationships with Hispanic community
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to share ideas and work in collaboration with Town leadership and community representatives/stakeholders. Ability to take constructive criticism, listen to ideas of others and maintain an open dialogue
  • Knowledge of Main Street America and Main Street Maryland
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft programs: Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Required: Bilingual (Spanish)
  • Extensive experience in community outreach, planning and implementation of community events, marketing, fundraising, grant research and budget planning
